The Cascades Female Factory Historic Site lies in the country of the muwinina people, at the base of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, in lutruwita/Tasmania. One of the most significant sites associated with female convicts, it is one of the 11 sites that form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property. Through interpretation, education and reflection; the Female Factory sheds light on the stories of convict women, and their children. Interwoven are the stories of the Palawa people, who were so gravely impacted by colonisation. While these stories can be confronting, they are also stories of resilience, courage and the possibility for change.
